About
Based at the Borough Welsh Chapel near London Bridge, Eschoir is more than just a Welsh male choir—it's a vibrant celebration of Welsh culture and choral music at the heart of London. Born from a desire to revive the Welsh male choir tradition among younger men, Eschoir has quickly become a cornerstone of London’s Welsh community, offering a sense of home for Welsh expats and music lovers alike.
Eschoir was formed by Mike Williams and Dr Haydn James in 2009 and our debut was at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, where we proudly performed the anthems at the Wales vs. Italy Six Nations match. Since then, we’ve had the privilege of performing on some of the most prestigious stages both in the UK and internationally. From singing for the British Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street to representing Wales at the British Embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia, to performing at the Archbishop of Canterbury’s retirement reception at Lambeth Palace—Eschoir’s reputation for world-class choral music continues to grow.
Our performances extend far beyond the traditional, with the choir collaborating with some of the most iconic names in music, including Katie Melua, Cerys Matthews, and Super Furry Animals. We’ve graced popular UK television shows and appeared in high-profile Welsh tourism campaigns, bringing the beauty and power of Welsh choral music into the homes of audiences nationwide.
Eschoir is also deeply committed to our local Welsh community in London, regularly performing at charity events, weddings, and special occasions.
Every year, on St. David’s Day, Eschoir takes to the streets of London, performing at iconic locations like Paddington Train Station, Borough Market, and the House of Commons, culminating in a noson lawen at a West London bar. Our 2017 noson lawen even saw surprise appearances from David Beckham and Ed Sheeran, further solidifying Eschoir’s role as a cultural force in the city.
Eschoir’s international presence reached new heights with two unforgettable performances at the Grand Concert during the North American Festival of Wales—first in 2018 in Alexandria, and again in 2022 in Philadelphia. These performances showcased our ability to connect with Welsh communities across the world, bringing the unmistakable sound of Wales to international stages.
We’re passionate about continuing to share our Welsh heritage far and wide, and we invite Welsh communities, music lovers, and cultural enthusiasts worldwide to host us for future tours, festivals, and events. Whether it’s a grand celebration, a festival, or an intimate gathering, Eschoir would be honoured to bring the powerful sound of Welsh choral music to your corner of the globe.
Let us bring the voice of Wales to you, wherever you are.
